KKR-Backed Optiv Debuts New Security Suite

Optiv Security has found a way to help businesses defend themselves by seeing things from their enemy’s perspective.

Earlier this month the firm announced a new suite of software security solutions called EnemyPerspectives@Optiv which allows users to gain the perspective of would-be attackers in order to understand flaws in their own defenses.

The software highlights three threat categories: threat profiling, resiliency, and incident response to help businesses avoid costly breaches which bolsters multi-factor authentication, a mature testing program, and a zero-trust security model.

A majority stake of Optiv Security was acquired by KKR from a group of private investors including Blackstone in 2016. The company was named to the Inc. Top 5000 companies in that year as one of North America’s fastest growing private companies with a 97% three-year growth rate.

The cyber security space is a lucrative one for Optiv and KKR, as the SaaS security company earned revenues of about $2 billion in 2015 alone.

Judging by those numbers, businesses are more than ready to invest in what Optiv has to offer, and with good cause. According to recent data by the Ponemon Institute, the global average cost of one data breach in the United States is $7.3 million and nearly 5 million records are lost or stolen worldwide every day.

Founded in 1976, KKR is a global investment firm with private equity, energy, infrastructure, real estate and credit capabilities. The firm’s strategy employs a capital markets business capable of everything from IPOs to underwriting new transactions to syndicating debt and equity.

The firm has over $191 billion in assets under management and 98 portfolio companies that employ a workforce of 695,000. By combining third party capital with this capital markets business and adding a diverse balance sheet, the company touts its competitive advantage to investors.

Optiv Security was founded in 2016 following the merger of AccVant and Fishnet Security and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The company helps organizations plan and manage cyber security solutions that align with business objectives.
