The 3 Top Cybersecurity Conferences

As the cybersecurity market is positioned to skyrocket to reach nearly $232 billion by 2020, compared to its estimated value of $138 billion in 2017, both old guard tech firms and new niche security providers alike are doubling down on their investments in the high growth business. Yet as emerging technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) opens up new doors for cybercriminals, it is increasingly important for organizations to constantly evolve, collaborate and stay up with the latest trends. ShmooCon

ShmooCon is an affordable, annual three-day east coast hacking conference founded in the late 90s by the Shmoo Group, the team behind projects such as Linux Apache, PGP, OpenSSL and Snort. The event which takes place in Washington, D.C., sells out quickly each year and packs in over 40 high quality talks and presentations on subjects such as cryptography and offers unique events such as “Smooganography.” The first day is a single track of speed talks called “One Track Mind,” while the next two days is comprised of three tracks: Build It, Belay It, and Bring It On.

RSA Conference

The RSA prides itself as a venue wherein security professionals can present new research to conference attendees in order to help them better prepare for future infosec challenges. The conferences draw in over 45,00 attendees per year and offer hands on sessions, keynotes and informal gatherings with top security leaders and industry pioneers. The RSA Conference USA 2018 will take place on April 16-20 in San Francisco.

DEF CON

Started by legendary computer and internet security expert and hacker Jeff Moss, (otherwise known as Dark Tangent), DEF CON has been held every year in Las Vegas since 1993. As one of the oldest and most famous cybersecurity meetings, the conference brings together some of the world’s best cybersecurity researchers and hackers. Alongside getting a chance to listen to excellent speakers, DEF CON offers activities such as Wi-Fi Cracking stations, lock picking, drone-related hacking, Capture the Flag contests and live music shows at night.
